ShowYou - The Future of Online Video Discovery

ShowYou is a new app that was released for the iPad about a week ago after much anticipation. In a nutshell, ShowYou does for video content what FlipBoard does for text. First, it aggregates videos from your Facebook and Twitter friends and other interesting videos from all over the web.

Then, it instantly generates a massive wall of a thousand videos, sizing them to fit perfectly into a beautifully arranged grid that you can pan around with ease. This makes finding interesting videos unbelievably easy. On my iPad 2, the app showed almost no lag at all - really impressive, considering the type and size of the content it is grabbing from all over the web.

When you tap on a video, ShowYou pulls up a panel that allows you to share the video with other ShowYou users, or with your Facebook friends or Twitter followers. You can also “send thanks” to the person who uploaded the video, which is a nice touch. Thanks to Apple’s use of AirPlay in all instances of video playback in iOS, you can also stream any video from ShowYou onto an Apple TV 2 instantly, in HD no less.

ShowYou is really impressive in use, and is unbelievably fun to play with. I spent quite a while on my couch with family members, just browsing videos from all over the web and tossing them up on our Apple TV in HD with a single tap, instantly filling the room with crisp sound and vibrant color. This feature alone makes the iPad more useful and fun in the living room, and when a single app can accomplish that feat, it’s a must-have.

ShowYou is a free download in the App Store, and couldn’t be more enjoyable to use. I can’t recommend it enough. Give it a try!
